Pure consistently grinding of clay in our clay mill
A clay mill is needed to turn the raw clay into a dry, fine powder that can be processed further. In such a clay mill, earth-moist clays as well as clay mixtures, kaolins and bentonites are ground into defined powders. As an expert in clay, Theodor Stephan KG operates its own grinding plant in Burbach. The moisture of the clay in two Pfeiffer vertical roller mills is reduced to less than 1% through grind drying. Depending on customer requirements, we can offer different grinding finenesses. The clay mill enables fineness from coarse (0-250 µm) to very fine (0-40 µm). Even small quantities can be ground without major grinding losses thanks to relatively small grinding units. And all of this is pure and of consistently high quality.
We have large silo capacities to ensure reliable deliveries to our customers. Once the clay has been ground into clay powder in the clay mill, the product is stored there according to type. After grinding, the clay powder is either delivered loose as silo goods or filled into practical big bags of various sizes or into 25 kg paper bags and stored on a pallet and shrunk in a weatherproof manner.
Contract grinding – we grind for you
As a service, we offer contract grinding of your clayey raw materials according to your specifications with our clay mill. This enables us to produce the right clay powder for your application. We are happy to check whether and how suitable your clayey raw material is for processing into clay powder. We check what fineness can be achieved, at what throughput and at what cost the desired clay powder product can be produced. Depending on your requirements, the product can be packaged loose as silo goods or packed in big bags or paper sacks. Your individual product designation and batch numbers to ensure traceability can also be included on the packaging. Please contact us about our contract grinding options.

The range of applications for clay is very versatile. The possibilities that we can offer our customers with our clay mill are just as diverse. We can produce clay powder from any raw clay. Most types of clay are therefore also available as clay powder. Different degrees of grinding are even possible. Depending on the area of application, a rather coarsely ground clay powder or a very finely ground clay powder makes sense.
